Billie Eilish, the 22-year-old pop sensation, seems to have cracked the code for rapid social media expansion with a simple yet ingenious strategy on Instagram.

In a remarkable turn of events, Eilish saw her follower count skyrocket by 7 million within just a span of two days, as reported by CrowdTangle. This surge in followers coincided with Eilish’s decision to add all of her 100-million-plus followers to her “Close Friends” Story, where she has been dropping enigmatic hints about her forthcoming third studio album throughout the week.

Data from the tracking company revealed that between Wednesday (April 3) and Thursday (April 4), a staggering 3.17 million users hit the “Follow” button on the account of the “What Was I Made For?” singer to gain access to her exclusive Story content. Subsequently, between Thursday and Friday (April 5), another 3.9 million users joined the bandwagon.

In total, Eilish experienced a growth of 6.4% on the platform within this short timeframe.

The content shared by the singer on her Close Friends platform has included intriguing snippets of artwork, predominantly characterized by soothing blue tones. The visual aesthetic of these posts aligns with certain billboards that have emerged in New York and Los Angeles this week, featuring what many speculate to be lyrics from Eilish’s upcoming album.

One billboard, for instance, prominently displayed the phrase, “She’s the headlights I’m the deer,” in bold blue lettering, while others featured cryptic lines such as, “I try to live in black and white,” and “Did I cross the line?”

Having not released an album since 2021’s “Happier Than Ever,” which followed her debut sensation “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” in 2019, both of which topped the Billboard 200 charts for three weeks, anticipation for Eilish’s new project is palpable.

In anticipation of her forthcoming musical era, Eilish discussed her commitment to sustainability in an interview with Billboard. However, following a misinterpretation of her remarks regarding the overproduction of vinyl variants, Eilish took to Instagram Stories to clarify her stance, emphasizing that she wasn’t singling out any particular artist.

“These are systemic issues prevalent throughout the industry,” she explained, “and many artists, including myself, contribute to the release of multiple variants.”
