Channing Tatum’s career took off when he appeared in the legendary “She Bangs” music video of a Latin pop star back in 2000. In the video, he played a bartender amidst a lively group of partygoers, including Ricky Martin. Fast forward almost twenty-five years, and Martin reminisced about this unexpected collaboration with Tatum during an interview on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, joined by his Palm Royale co-star Kristen Wiig on Thursday (March 21).

Martin recalled, “I think he said thank you for the first opportunity,” expressing his appreciation for Tatum’s graciousness. He shared the behind-the-scenes story, saying, “In Miami, I simply instructed the video production team to scout and invite everyone to the Bahamas. And that’s how it happened, and there he was.”

Tatum himself acknowledged this early project in a 2022 Wired video with Sandra Bullock, his co-star in The Lost City. “My very first job ever was a Ricky Martin video,” he revealed, sparking Bullock’s admission that she was “fangirling.”

Describing his role, Tatum reminisced, “I was a bartender with face paint and a mohawk. It was a blast, truly enjoyable.”

“She Bangs,” released in 2000 as part of Martin’s Sound Loaded album, soared to No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. This success followed Martin’s chart-topping hit “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” which dominated the charts for five weeks. The album itself peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.
