Lil Nas X revealed the cover art for his upcoming single “J CHRIST” yesterday, which features the rapper — resembling Jesus — being put on a cross. “My new single is dedicated to the man who had the greatest comeback of all time!” he wrote. The song, which will apparently kick off his sophmore album, is scheduled to drop this Friday along with a music video. But Nas insists that he’s not mocking Jesus or Christianity. “the crazy thing is nowhere in the picture is a mockery of jesus,” he wrote. “Jesus’s image is used throughout history in people’s art all over the world.” He continued, “I’m not making fun of s—. yall just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were even born. stfu.” Nas got similar blowback when he used Devil imagery in the visuals for his Montero album.
