The music world is still on a high after Eminem dropped his brand new single, ‘Walk on Water’ featuring Beyonce.

If you listen to ‘Walk on Water’ you can hear that Eminem is very self-reflective and aware of the criticisms he’s received over the last few years with some critics feeling he’s “fallen off”.

He raps, “It’s the curse of the standard / That the first of the Mathers disc set / Always in search of the verse that I haven’t spit yet / Will this step just be another misstep / To tarnish whatever the legacy, love or respect I’ve garnered? / The rhyme has to be perfect, the delivery flawless / And it always feels like I’m hitting the mark / ‘Tll I go sit in the car, listen, and pick it apart / Like, “This shit is garbage.”

He delved even deeper and revealed what his mindset was when he recorded the song on the Broken Record podcast with Malcolm Gladwell and Rick Rubin.

He said, “When you start out in your career, you have a blank canvas, so you can paint anywhere that you want because the sh*t ain’t been painted on yet…And then your second album comes out and you paint a little more, and you paint a little more and by the time you get to your seventh and eight album you’ve already painted all over that. There’s nowhere else to paint. So it’s like, where do you go? And people are always expecting something different from you.”

He also explained how he was able to get Beyonce the record. It came after he and Rubin finished the track, Rubin knew exactly who to play it for, “The reason I waned to play it for him is because I’m sure these same feelings cross his mind…These same feelings cross any successful artist’s mind.” After hearing the record, Beyonce agreed to sing the chorus, and the rest is history.”

‘Walk on Water’ will appear on Em’s forthcoming studio album, Revival which is reportedly due out next week.

He’s also set to be the musical guest on next weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live.
