On the day of the release of his highly anticipated album Divide, Ed Sheeran sat down with to take us through the album track-by-track.

The album features 14 songs and two additional bonus tracks that are available on the deluxe addition.

Earlier this week, Ed opened up about all the tracks on the record during an interview with Zane Lowe from Beats 1…

1. ‘ERASER’

Believe it or not, Ed was in a treehouse when he first thought of this song.

This week, he released a video for this through UK channel SBTV, check that out below.

2. ‘CASTLE ON THE HILL’

Not only is this his “ode to Suffolk” his hometown, Ed revealed that this is his dad’s favourite song.

The music video features kids from Ed’s hometown, check that out below!

3. ‘DIVE’

Singer Jessie Ware (who was 8 months pregnant at the time) helped to provide backing vocals on this song. Ed was also assisted by super producer Benny Blanco and singer-songwriter Julia Michaels (who has a hit song called ‘Issues’).

4. ‘SHAPE OF YOU’

The record-setting first single off Divide was originally written for Rihanna but Ed gives big shout outs to two other artists, Sia and Kygo.

Watch the video for ‘Shape of You’ below!

5. ‘PERFECT’

Ed may have won the Grammy last year for ‘Thinking Out Loud’, but he wasn’t okay with settling for that. It was that drive that pushed him to write this song.

6. ‘GALWAY GIRL’

Ed showed a little bit of rebellion with this song. He knows the people around him are ‘anti-folk’ songs, but he loves this song and he thinks his fans will too.

7. ‘HAPPIER’

Ed got help from Benny Blanco and One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder with this song and if Blanco had his way, this would have been the first single, not ‘Castle on the Hill’ or ‘Shape Of You’.

8. ‘NEW MAN’

I won’t mince words with this one, Ed calls this the “f***boy anthem”. He describes this a lot better, check it out below.

9. ‘HEARTS DON’T BREAK AROUND HERE’

As a fan, you’re bound to have many favourites off of Divide, ‘Heart Don’t Break Around Here’ is Ed’s favourite.

10. ‘WHAT DO I KNOW?”

Even though Ed went on hiatus last year and traveled the world, it doesn’t mean he wasn’t aware of all the madness going on around the world. On ‘What Do I Know?’, Ed talked about what was happening around him.

11. ‘HOW WOULD YOU FEEL’ (PAEAN)

This is Ed Sheeran’s girlfriend favourite song off of Divide. He spoke about that at length HERE.

Check out what Ed told Zane Lowe about the song below and find out how John Mayer helped influence it.

Also, watch the video for ‘How Would You Feel’ below!

12. ‘SUPERMARKET FLOWERS’

Ed has his favourite (‘Heart Don’t Break Around Here’), his dad has his (‘Castle on the Hill’), even his girlfriend has a favourite (‘How Would You Feel’) and this song, ‘Supermarket Flowers’ is Ed’s grandfather’s favourite from Divide.

13. ‘BARCELONA’

He was all set to release this as the first single, even went as far as shooting a music video for it, but then plans changed.

14. ‘BIBIA BE YE YE’

The title means, ‘everything is alright, it’s all good’. Check out what Ed told Zane Lowe about the record below.

Two other songs that will appear on the deluxe version of Divide are ‘Nancy Mulligan’ and ‘Save Myself’ (along with ‘Barcelona’ and ‘Bibia Be Ye Ye’).
