Highlights of the event will include: Aguilera’s tribute to Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, mother of host Tracee Ellis Ross (“Black-ish”) will receive a lifetime achievement award and perform, P!nk and Kelly Clarkson will open the night with a powerful duet.

 

When it comes to the actual hardware, Bruno Mars is leading with eight nominations, Ed Sheeran is tied with Drake, Kendrick Lamar, the Weeknd and the Chainsmokers at five.

Shawn Mendes just came off an awards-show-high winning four European Music Awards (EMAs) for Best Song, Best Artist, Best Canadian Act and Biggest Fans. How will he fare at the AMAs? He is in the running for Favorite Artist (AC) up against Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran.

  • Fave Male Artist (pop/rock): Bruno Mars, Drake and Ed Sheeran.
  • Fave Female Artist (pop/rock): Alessia Cara, Lady Gaga and Rihanna.
  • Fave Duo or Group (pop/rock): The Chainsmokers, Coldplay and Imagine Dragons.
  • Fave Album (pop/rock): Bruno Mars “24K Magic”, Drake “More Life” and The Weeknd “Starboy”.
