The show was held at New York’s Madison Square Garden and featured performances from Beyonce, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Nick Jonas and more!

DJ Khaled hosted the pre-show which featured performances from Lukas Graham, Jidenna and Brampton’s own, Alessia Cara!

Rihanna kicked off the show with a medley of her biggest hits, including ‘Don’t Stop The Music’, ‘Only Girl’ and ‘We Found Love’!

Riri later came out a second time and performed her more reggae-leaning hits like ‘Work’, ‘Rude Boy’ and ‘What’s My Name’. Check it out below!

That wasn’t all, she performed for a THIRD time. Watch her perform another medley of her hits, including ‘Pour It Up’, ‘Needed Me’ and ‘B***h Better Have My Money’!

Riri closed the show with yes, yet ANOTHER performance (her fourth of the night). She performed ‘Stay’, ‘Diamonds’, and ‘Love on the Brain’, her latest single.

She was also the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and her on again/off again boyfriend, Drake presented her with the award. Check out her speech below!

The Chainsmokers and Halsey performed their latest hit, ‘Closer’ for the crowd at Madison Square Garden.

Fresh off of releasing her new studio album, ‘Glory‘, Britney Spears took the stage with G-Eazy and performed her single, ‘Make Me (Oooh)’. She was introduced by Kim Kardashian.

Oh Kanye…

Well he gave quite a speech, where he touched on his role models (i.e. Disney, Anna Wintour etc..). He spoke about the violence in his hometown of Chicago and he also said “BROOOOOO” a WHOLE lot.

Oh, he also mentioned Taylor Swift briefly. Check out what Yeezus had to say and also watch his new music video, ‘Fade’!

Atlanta rapper Future took time away from his and Drake’s ‘Summer Sixteen Tour’ to perform on the VMA stage. He performed his hit, ‘Commas’!

Nick Jonas and Ty Dolla $ign performed their song ‘Bacon’, not on the VMA stage at Madison Square Garden, but at a New York City diner!

Alicia Keys took time to deliver a powerful poem in honour of Dr. Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech.

Yesterday, MTV posted this picture of Beyonce on the Madison Square Garden marquee, teasing an appearance from Queen Bee…

Then just hours before the show, they confirmed that she would be performing with this tweet…

And Beyonce did not disappoint as she graced the stage and performed her VMA winner for ‘Breakthrough Long Form Video’, ‘Lemonade’!

She also took home the big award of the evening, ‘Video of the Year’ for ‘Formation’. Check out her speech below.

‘Side to Side’ is a single from Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman album, and her and Nicki Minaj (the two collaborated before on ‘Bang Bang’) took the VMA stage to perform the hit together!
